Kirepapa

I'm not sure how to react. This is a personal review yet i can't find the words to express everything i'm feeling. Okay first, the main topic of controversy for the Kirepapa yaoi series is the fact that the main couple Shunsuke and Riju's dad are the topic of focus. That's super contradictory on it's own.
Let me express it this way, for me this is totally screwed up, not because the entire story line is jack whack bunkers but because Chisato the main character and love interest of 15 or 16 year old Shunsuke, not that the age matters at this point. Way past the line of no return already, the extra year difference just doesn't even make any sense to me.

Now Chisato, Riju's father, a heavily gorgeous and attractive man, who is an Adult Male Father! So can someone tell me why in God's name he constantly acts like a 15 year old teenage girl.
Adult: Dudes friggin 30! Thirty! So why in the dude's world does he constantly act like the inferior lolita when he's around other men, automatically making his personality and character type the 'bottom' even though he's supposed to be older, wiser and more experienced than Shunsuke. He's 30 and the age gap between them is to great for it to be natural that he's playing the innocent, bottom, hot flick lollita. (Although comprehensible given his softy character flaw, i mean, Riju's friends did mistake him for his sister). Which brings me to...
Male: He's a guy for pete's sake quite making him act like a powerless, cute baby cub all the time. It's weird! Yeah i get this is a bl story but come! on! Give me a break! That thing he's doing acting like the somewhat clueless girly man role running from his true feelings then embracing them all while harboring 'protective' feelings for his son Riju. So i wanna ask, you can apparently protect Riju but you can't protect yourself?! Where does that mentality come from?! And lastly...
Father: The most important thing, he's a father! Oh well that's surprising because from the way he acts i would've never guessed, i swear. I just want him to act a little proper at least. It's just weird!

But i will give the show credit where it is due. It's enticing to read and watch and i like the fact that it's probably the first yaoi anime i've come across where the chasee (in this case Chisato) professes his love to the chaser (in this case Shunsuke) without too much of a stubborn hassle. Heck in the very first episode Chisato tells Shunsuke that he's in love with him as much as Shunsuke in him. I mean that's super rare, most yaoi manga artists prefer to prolong the chasee's stubbornness to verbalize his feelings for chaser reciprocating their love vocally.
Examples like, Junjou Romantica, Sekai ichi Hatsukoi, Love Stage, Dakaretai Otoko, Sex Pistols, Maiden Rose, Koisuru Bouken etc. In all of these each time it takes a significant amount of time for the partner being chased by the other to say the words "I love You" back, no matter how many goddamn friggin times the other says it to them, and in some of the anime like Maiden Rose and Koisuru Bouken (The Tyrant Falls In Love), the chasee ends up actually never saying the words back even though the chaser already sort of knows how they actually feel which can get super annoying actually. It kind of pisses me off to the max when that happens. Like just drop the stubborn schtick already and come out and say it! You're in love with him! Goddamn it is that really so hard?!
But when Chisato told Shunsuke how he felt and that he loved him in episode 1, the very first episode, it was actually kind of a fresh pace for me. I was happy, at least something's right.

Anywho Kirepapa is actually quite good if you take the time and patience to sit through the first episode, the rest just comes naturally and you tend to overlook the weirdness overtime. It's really good, or so i've been told. Based on the numerous polls i've taken it's been voted as personal fav twice already out of the four times i took the survey so you can guess that it'll actually end up being worth your time. But honestly, personally for me i think Kirepapa's really dumb! But it's amusing, and incredibly humorous. Nice to watch if you need something to perk you up or lift up your spirits.

That's all i really have to say about it, left to you to judge whether or not you'd make some precious time to watch it. Be warned! It is Hardcore Boy's Love and has heavy sexual content. If you're not a fan of boy's love or yaoi i suggest you try giving it a chance and start off by watching light boy's love like No 6, Dramatical Murder or Yuri! On Ice then make your way up from there. And if you're sensitive to what's basically known as pornography then i think it'd be in your best interest not to watch Kirepapa or any of the aforementioned yaoi (exempting Yuri! On Ice, No 6 and Dramatical Murders).
If you're just starting out and not sure, you could just start off with Free! It's not much in that department but the over affectionate feelings of friendship they share should steer up emotions you'd like to get used to.

Blue Exorcist

If you've ever had an obsession for watching and/or reading anything with the supernatural in it, especially one involving holy men against demons Blue Exorcist definitely delivers a nice dose of this is what you need in your life.

True blue exorcist isn't as interesting to watch as a ton of other anime out there but it is interesting all the same. Seeing as i have nothing to compare it to I'm going to have to put it at the top of my list in that particular genre. Of course Devilman: Crybaby is in the running too considering the similarities in demon's and Satan but comparing the two doesn't strike me as fair and equal because both of them cover very different ground. Devilman: Crybaby is tragic, violent, gory, horrific but over all awesome to the max. But Blue Exorcist covers the more happier ending side of the coin, so we can't really classify both as the same genre in terms of the overall feelings you have at the end.

Now the plot in my terms (because i know how sometimes we get annoyed at how much a standard plot on wiki or wherever lacks depth or gives too much depth, so I'm going to try my best to make this just right).

The Japanese anime follows the life of a fifteen year old Rin Okumura and his twin brother Yukio as they try to hide the fact that they are the son's of Satan. Although Yukio hasn't inherited the marking blue flames of their father the devil aka Satan therefore lacking any overwhelming power he's determined to protect his brother. Rin, after watching his foster father die is determined to become an exorcist like his dad and brother and quote... "Kick Satan's ass!" for what he's done and what he will do. He tries to hide his demonic powers from his friends but surprise surprise it totally backfires. Anyway... He's got a lot to handle aside from his goal, like battling his inferiority complex to his younger and smarter brother Yukio, the two could not be anymore different and also handling school at the same time. As he trains to be the most powerful exorcist he also trains to get his power in check so he doesn't hurt anyone he cares about.

Anyway that's basically the run down, can't reveal anymore or i might give away spoilers. Basically it's worth while to watch and i can honestly say it's on my top 15 animation shows to watch. You'll really get into it if you're as interested in dark fantasy, adventure fiction and supernatural anime's as much as i am.

The manga has been serialized since 2009 with it's illustrator Kazue Katō.
As for the anime it's first episode aired: April 17, 2011
And final episode aired: March 25, 2017
With a total of 25 episodes and about 12 OVAs on the Japanese News Network

Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga is considered to be season 2 although it doesn't continue from the ending of the original season 1 plot. It takes place around the aftermath of episode 15's battle between Rin Okumura and Amaimon, demon king of earth. Blue Exorcist season 2 or Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga is of a different timeline, it's set right after Mephisto's court hearing and so the events after that are rendered none existent, basically all that fighting with the devil never happened... yet, probably.

Since Kyoto Saga is sort of season 2, Season 3 is said to be released sometime early 2019 but more specifically January 2019. Although this could be changed to a later date at any time so.

The 2012 Blue Exorcist Movie, Blue Exorcist- The Movie (that came out 2013 in the USA)  directed by Atsushi Takahashi is also pretty rad to watch if you get tired of waiting for the next season's release.

The major Characters in Blue Exorcist are: (English voice actors)
Rin Okumura- played by Bryce Papenbrook
Yukio Okumura- Johnny Yong Bosch
Shiemi Moriyama- Christine Marie Cabanos
Mephisto Pheles- Sam Riegel
Amaimon- Darrel Guilbeau
Reiji Shiratori- Derek Stephen Prince
Izumo Kamiki- Kira Buckland
Ryuji Suguro- Kyle Hebert
Renzo Shima- Brian Beacock
Konekomaru Miwa- Mona Marshall
Kuro- Stephanie Sheh
Noriko Paku- Cassandra Lee Morris

Not to sound like a broken record but Blue Exorcist is really interesting, awesome to watch and definitely worth the time even if it's not as out there as some other legends. That said if you would like a download and/or streaming link for the first two episodes of Season 1 just leave a comment and i'll hook you up, completely free. That or you could just settle down on your couch and enjoy comfortably watching it on Netflix or Hulu. Although Netflix doesn't have season 2 but Hulu does, just a heads up. Either one you decide i'm here to help.

Similar anime like Blue Exorcist/If you liked Blue Exorcist you might like: Devilman: Crybaby, The Seven Deadly Sins, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Vampire Knight, Fairy Tail, Soul Eater, Noragami, Black Butler, Tokyo Ghoul, Future Diary, Death Note, The Devil Is A Part-Timer! etc
