If you've ever had an obsession for watching and/or reading anything with the supernatural in it, especially one involving holy men against demons Blue Exorcist definitely delivers a nice dose of this is what you need in your life.
True blue exorcist isn't as interesting to watch as a ton of other anime out there but it is interesting all the same. Seeing as i have nothing to compare it to I'm going to have to put it at the top of my list in that particular genre. Of course Devilman: Crybaby is in the running too considering the similarities in demon's and Satan but comparing the two doesn't strike me as fair and equal because both of them cover very different ground. Devilman: Crybaby is tragic, violent, gory, horrific but over all awesome to the max. But Blue Exorcist covers the more happier ending side of the coin, so we can't really classify both as the same genre in terms of the overall feelings you have at the end.
Now the plot in my terms (because i know how sometimes we get annoyed at how much a standard plot on wiki or wherever lacks depth or gives too much depth, so I'm going to try my best to make this just right).
The Japanese anime follows the life of a fifteen year old Rin Okumura and his twin brother Yukio as they try to hide the fact that they are the son's of Satan. Although Yukio hasn't inherited the marking blue flames of their father the devil aka Satan therefore lacking any overwhelming power he's determined to protect his brother. Rin, after watching his foster father die is determined to become an exorcist like his dad and brother and quote... "Kick Satan's ass!" for what he's done and what he will do. He tries to hide his demonic powers from his friends but surprise surprise it totally backfires. Anyway... He's got a lot to handle aside from his goal, like battling his inferiority complex to his younger and smarter brother Yukio, the two could not be anymore different and also handling school at the same time. As he trains to be the most powerful exorcist he also trains to get his power in check so he doesn't hurt anyone he cares about.
Anyway that's basically the run down, can't reveal anymore or i might give away spoilers. Basically it's worth while to watch and i can honestly say it's on my top 15 animation shows to watch. You'll really get into it if you're as interested in dark fantasy, adventure fiction and supernatural anime's as much as i am.
The manga has been serialized since 2009 with it's illustrator Kazue KatÅ.
As for the anime it's first episode aired: April 17, 2011
And final episode aired: March 25, 2017
With a total of 25 episodes and about 12 OVAs on the Japanese News Network
Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga is considered to be season 2 although it doesn't continue from the ending of the original season 1 plot. It takes place around the aftermath of episode 15's battle between Rin Okumura and Amaimon, demon king of earth. Blue Exorcist season 2 or Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga is of a different timeline, it's set right after Mephisto's court hearing and so the events after that are rendered none existent, basically all that fighting with the devil never happened... yet, probably.
Since Kyoto Saga is sort of season 2, Season 3 is said to be released sometime early 2019 but more specifically January 2019. Although this could be changed to a later date at any time so.
The 2012 Blue Exorcist Movie, Blue Exorcist- The Movie (that came out 2013 in the USA) directed by Atsushi Takahashi is also pretty rad to watch if you get tired of waiting for the next season's release.
The major Characters in Blue Exorcist are: (English voice actors)

Not to sound like a broken record but Blue Exorcist is really interesting, awesome to watch and definitely worth the time even if it's not as out there as some other legends. That said if you would like a download and/or streaming link for the first two episodes of Season 1 just leave a comment and i'll hook you up, completely free. That or you could just settle down on your couch and enjoy comfortably watching it on Netflix or Hulu. Although Netflix doesn't have season 2 but Hulu does, just a heads up. Either one you decide i'm here to help.
